DPF Cleaning
Diesel particulate filter cleaning
DPF Cleaning
At Wight Tyres we professionally clean all diesel particulate filters (DPF’s), Euro 4, 5 & 6 with our industrial off car DPF machine.
That’s cars, light commercial, commercial, agricultural and marine.
All we need is the DPF to be removed from the vehicle.
12-Month Warranty as standard on all cleans.
*** Please note we DO NOT, as offered by others***
Cut open the DPF, Weld the DPF, Bake the DPF, Use Aerosols or Ultrasonic Tanks. The DPF needs to be completely removed from the vehicle to professionally remove ash as well as soot. Once the DPF is blocked to the point that either the vehicle or a technician cannot force a regeneration, only our cleaning processes will effectively return the unit to correct operating efficiency.
An additional level of protection is available called Protect –
Featuring the latest Nano-Catalyst technology to keep your DPF cleaner for longer. Following the treatment, the dried DPF is slowly fed the Power Protect fluid through the exhaust intake and rotated to ensure an even coating of protection. The fluid is absorbed by the DPF leaving a Nano-Catalytic coating on the surface of the filter. The Nano-Catalytic coating causes soot to combust at lower temperatures (400°C rather than 650°C) slowing the build-up of impurities blocking the DPF and increasing the effectiveness of the vehicle’s built-in ‘regeneration’ burn-off.
What is the process?
We conduct a pre-clean air flow test to verify there is a blockage and note the reading.
We then use our DPF cleaning solution and soak the DPF for around half an hour.
We then place the DPF on the machine and use high-pressured air and water to force all the carbon, soot & ash from the filter until only clean water runs freely. This process takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on how blocked it is.
We then connect the freshly cleaned DPF to a blower and dry the filter.
Finally, we carry out a post-clean air flow test to ensure the blockage has been removed and note the reading.
We would always recommend that a carbon clean is carried out in conjunction with the DPF clean. This will clear any carbon build-up upstream of the DPF.
How do i tell if my diesel particulate filter is blocked?
If the DPF is becoming clogged with soot, ash or carbon or a fault develops in the system, usually, an orange light known as an engine management or EML will typically appear on your dashboard.
Symptoms include;
- Loss of Power
- Reduced Fuel Economy
- Poor Throttle Response
- Hard to Start
- Limp Mode
- Bad Smells
What causes a dpf blockage?
Short journeys at low speeds are the main cause of blocked diesel particulate filters.
Other things that are bad for DPFs include poor servicing, clogged EGR valve & excessive carbon build-up.
What is the cost of a new diesel particulate filter?
Diesel particulate filters are very expensive.
A new genuine DPF from a manufacturer can cost anything from £1,000 to over £3,500.
What is DPF cleaning and why is it necessary?
DPF, or Diesel Particulate Filter, cleaning is a crucial maintenance process for diesel-powered vehicles equipped with DPF systems. The DPF is designed to trap and remove particulate matter from the exhaust gases, preventing harmful emissions. Over time, the trapped particles can accumulate and reduce the DPF’s efficiency. Regular DPF cleaning is necessary to:
- Maintain Engine Performance: A clogged DPF can lead to reduced engine performance and fuel efficiency. Cleaning ensures optimal engine function
- Prevent Engine Damage: If left uncleaned, a blocked DPF can cause increased exhaust back pressure, potentially leading to engine damage
- Comply with Emission Standards: Clean DPFs contribute to lower emissions, helping your vehicle meet environmental standards and pass emissions tests
- Avoid Costly Repairs: Regular DPF cleaning helps prevent more extensive and costly repairs associated with a damaged or malfunctioning DPF.
At Wight Tyres, our professional off-car DPF cleaning services & on-car DPF regenerations are designed to ensure your diesel vehicle operates efficiently, complies with emission regulations, and maintains peak performance.
How do I know if my DPF needs cleaning?
• Several signs indicate that your DPF may need cleaning:
- Warning Light: Most modern vehicles are equipped with a DPF warning light that illuminates when the filter is becoming clogged
- Reduced Engine Performance: If you experience a noticeable drop in power or acceleration, it may be a sign of a blocked DPF
- Increased Fuel Consumption: A clogged DPF can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, resulting in more frequent refuelling
- Exhaust Smoke: Dark smoke emitting from the exhaust, especially during acceleration, may indicate a clogged DPF.
If you notice any of these signs, it’s essential to have your DPF inspected and cleaned promptly. Wight Tyres offers professional DPF diagnostics and cleaning services to address these issues and keep your diesel vehicle running smoothly.
